Frequently asked questions

What can a doula do for me?

A doula provides consistent emotional, physical, and informational support through birth and the postpartum period. During labour, this includes steady reassurance, hands-on comfort, and guidance with movement and positioning so you can feel grounded and confident in your choices. The postpartum period can feel especially challenging without the right support in place. A doula helps lighten that load by offering practical care, newborn guidance, and emotional support, creating space for rest, recovery, and a gentler adjustment to life with your baby.

What education do you have?

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Photography and am a certified birth and postpartum doula through Balancing Birth to Baby. My doula education includes in-depth training in labour support techniques, physical comfort measures, informed decision-making, and postpartum care. I also completed a year of hands-on training and mentorship under experienced doulas at Balancing Birth to Baby, which allowed me to deepen my practical skills and confidence while supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

Will you replace my partner or support person?

Not at all. A doula isn’t there to take anyone’s place, we’re there to support the whole team. I work alongside your partner or support person, offering guidance, extra hands, and reassurance so they can stay present and confident. Think of it as added support, not a replacement, so no one is doing this alone, and everyone gets a chance to rest when needed.

Do you offer photography as part of your doula services?

Yes! Depending on the type of doula support you choose, photography can be added in a way that best fits your needs. Birth doula support can be paired with newborn photography during the early days at home, while postpartum doula support can be paired with birth photography. Photography may also be booked on its own. All options are offered with care and flexibility to honour what feels right for your family. Photography is approached gently and respectfully, with care taken to honour the intimacy of birth and the tenderness of the newborn period.
